Learn the secret language of your dog and become a natural leader
We sometimes forget that living with a dog is living with a thinking and feeling individual. And just like us, they need to feel safe to be happy.
But a dog is a completely different species from us. A species with another language and a different perspective on the world. They just don't need what we need to feel safe and happy.
So what does this mean for me and my dog?
Well, we can never expect that our dogs will learn our language. Nor can we ever shift their thinking about how the world works.
Instead, we must learn to intentionally communicate with our dogs. This means using behaviors and body language that tells the dog you are the leader it can trust.
Why is this important?
Most of the behaviors we find troubling in our life with dogs comes from the dog thinking it has the leadership role in your pack. For a dog, this is an impossible and very stressful task. Why? Because dogs live in a world that is very confusing to them. After all, it's designed for humans, not for dogs.
Jumping up on you or guests, endless barking, food issues, separation anxiety, pulling on the lead. These are all behaviors that can be amended through applying Dog Listening.
What does a consultation look like?
During an online consultation, we talk through what your life with your dog looks like today.
We then look into what is already good, what needs to change and why, and then we put it into the perspective of Dog Listening.
I will walk you through what your dog needs from you in terms of communication. Everything you do or don't do sends a message to your dog. I help you understand what this means and how you can easily use this send the right message that makes your dog feel safe.
You will get all the tools you need to start implementing Dog Listening into your everyday life right away!
The biggest difference is that it's actually not a dog training method.
Now WHAT do I mean by that?
It's quite simple actually.
In Dog Listening, it's not about training our dogs. Instead, it's about training ourselves to communicate with our dogs the only way they can possibly understand. The language of canines is silent and simple, but also quite complex.
This means that your focus will be on what YOU do (or perhaps don't do!) in response to what your dog does. There is a saying in the Dog Listener world:
"It doesn't matter what the dog does, all that matters is what YOU do in response to that."
Often that is - absolutely nothing. If that sounds weird, I completely understand. We are so used to being told to always take some kind of action towards the dog. Shouting at it, jerking the lead, telling it off, using devices to scare or "correct" the dog's behavior.
With Dog Listening, you do none of that. Dog Listening is always gentle, kind and fearfree, yet it's very effective and transformational.
By recognizing that dogs still operate like wolves, although domesticated, we can deal with them in a way they can actually understand. Dog Listening is based in science.
